Depart at 10:00 AM (time later than usual). Come out and hike the grand opening of the 7.5 mile “Wilmington-New Castle Trail” / “Jack Markell Trail”, from north to south. This is a multi-use (pedestrians and cyclists) path that now connects Wilmington’s Riverfront Russell Peterson Wildlife Refuge to Old New Castle’s Delaware Battery Park. There is a brand new bridge that crosses the Christina River. It’s the largest pedestrian bridge in Delaware. Mostly flat and dry, former rail trail. Bring water and lunch. Car shuttling is necessary and will meet at: New Castle Junior High School, 977 Delaware St, New Castle, DE 19720 (39.663926, -75.570850).
