On Saturday, November 9th from 8:30 till approximately 11:30 a.m. the City of Newark Parks Department in conjunction with the Conservation Advisory Commission is sponsoring a reforestation planting and FREE tree giveaway. The site for the giveaway is the parking lot at the Newark Reservoir located at 240 Old Paper Mill Road, Newark DE. There will be 50 trees of mixed types available that will be given out on a first come first serve basis. The trees will be in 1 and/or 3 gallon pots.
Anyone interested in participating in the planting event can also volunteer that day. This is a rain or shine event. Please bring work gloves and dress accordingly. We will be planting trees, shrubs, and perennial ground covers; as well as putting tube coverings over existing sapling trees to protect them from deer browsing.
For additional information please call the Parks Department at 366-7000 between the hours of 8:30am and 5pm Monday thru Friday.
