DRIVING DIRECTIONS:
From Wilmington, take DE-52 (Kennett Pike) north to the north end of Centreville, and find a wide area off to the right side of the road for parking…directly opposite the intersection with Snuff Mill Rd on the left.
LOCATION NOTES:
This is the State of Delaware Flint Woods Nature Preserve that is adjacent DNS Flint Woods Nature Preserve. Permission is not required to use the State Preserve but is required for the DNS Preserve. This Nature Preserve protects over 40 acres of mature Piedmont hardwood forest. The Preserve contains a “Golden Saxifrage Forested Seep Community”, of which there are fewer than six known to occur in the state. It serves as an anchor, along with Brandywine Creek State Park to the south, for more than 2,000 acres of protected lands (including 1100 acres of Conservation Easements and private Nature Preserves) creating a corridor between Brandywine Creek State Park and open space in Pennsylvania’s portion of the Brandywine Creek watershed. Six first order streams that ultimately flow to Brandywine Creek originate on the Flint Woods Nature Preserve. Two of these flow northward into Pennsylvania. Acreage: 138 acres.
There is a Loop Trail (pedestrian only) and parking along Rt. 52 in Centreville, DE. This area is large enough for several cars, without blocking access to an adjacent private road or the park entry (visible metal gate at the south end of the pull off). Please park at an angle in this area to maximize the space. Coming south from PA, this parking is on the left shortly after passing Centreville Layton School, also on the left. Additional parking can be found on the south bound side of DE-52 just past Gregg Ave a block away.
