LOCATION NOTES:
Dress for the weather and water temperatures. A shorter boat, 10 to 13 feet long, is suggested for this paddle. The Brandywine is characterized by shallow riffles followed by deeper pools. Depending on water levels, some riffles will be too shallow to float through, so it will be necessary to stand and walk in water and lead your boat through them. Having a rope tied to your boat will make this easier. Be sure to bring plenty to drink, your lunch, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
Details: We will launch from Downingtown Access, located behind Downingtown Municipal Government Center, 4 W. Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown, PA 19335. We will take out at Shaws Bridge Park, 274 S Creek Rd, West Chester, PA 19382. The paddle distance is approximately 8.6 miles.
Important Note: The first several miles of this trip require a certain minimum water level to be easily paddled. After signing up, pay close attention to your emails in the days approaching the trip date in case a change to the put-in location becomes necessary.
