TIME: All Day (Prompt start, estimated end.)
MILEAGE: 16-18 miles
SORRY, BUT THIS TRIP HAS BEEN CANCELED. This is a 17-mile, 3 day and 2 night snowshoeing / backpacking / winter camping loop in the Windham-Blackhead Range Wilderness. Trip details and a map can be found at https://www.challengedhiking.com/2020/10/22/backpacking-the-windham-blackhead-mountain-range-loop/
The trip will start at 7am on Saturday February 19; attendees can either stay at a local establishment or sleep at the trailhead (Barnum Rd, Jewett, NY, 42.264017, -74.176820) as I will do.
While all skill levels are welcome, attendees MUST:
- have the athletic and mental ability to travel over difficult terrain; 5,000’ elevation gain – on snow – over the entire trip
- have the clothing and gear (shoes shoes, micro-spikes, full body shell protection) to travel safely in extremely cold temperatures
- have the gear to sleep outside in extremely cold temperatures; while we will be spending each of the two nights at a lean-to, attendees must be prepared to sleep outside
Please contact Greg with questions and to sign-up.
