EVENT
DATE: 12/13/2023
TIME: 9:00am-1:30pm (prompt start, estimated end)
MILEAGE: 8 miles
Please join us for a hike at this beautiful PA State Park. It’s between the mighty Susquehanna River and Wisslers Run Creek. You will be able to touch both of these bodies of water. No significant water crossings. Most of the trails pass through Rhododendrons and are rocky but very well maintained. There are lots of elevation changes and some trails are steep, but we’ll take our time and it will be well worth the effort. There’s an impressive view of a huge rock from below and later two very high scenic overlooks. Eagles and large hawks soar in this area. There are also a few historical remnants along the way and a tube tunnel to walk through. There will be an early out option back at the parking lot, around 6 miles. The names of the trails we’ll hike include: Spring, Five Points, Rhododendron, Holly, Fire, Overlook, Landis, Chimney, and Pipe Line. Boots and long pants are recommended. If you use poles, definitely bring them. Bring lots of water, snack, and lunch!
IMPORTANT: Read the location info very carefully, because this park is named very similarly to two other parks that the club uses! And none of them are near each other. No previous hikes have been listed at this location since I joined in 2012.
ATTENTION: Bad weather may postpone this event because of possible obstructed views, slippery rocks or, most importantly, the travel involved, so look out for any forum notices!
CARPOOLING: There is plenty of room for parking but due to the distance this organized carpool option is offered. Leaving promptly at:
-> 8:00 AM from Fair Hill State Natural Resources Area – P1 (MD-273) (opposite the main fairgrounds) [This is on leader’s way, so just show up and we’ll organize into cars.]
-> If anyone is willing to organize a carpool from North Wilmington, let me know and I’ll add it to this info.

These place names are very confusing, so read the directions very carefully! This park is in southern PA, just on the EAST side of the Susquehanna River. It is NOT: “Susquehanna State Park” or “Susquehannock State Forest”. It’s south of “Muddy Run Reservoir”, which is all the way across the river from “Muddy Creek”.
