Meet and be ready to depart by 10:00 a.m. from the Springlawn Tract parking lot at 1000 Chesterville Road, Lincoln University, PA (39.735090, -75.875450) for a 4.5 mile hike. The hike will be 2.25 miles each way, on a shady dirt road, that overlooks the rushing Big Elk Creek. Participants can choose the length of their hike, by waiting anywhere along the trail and then rejoining the group on the hike back to the parking lot. There are no hills or water crossings, but the surface is not always flat. Bring water and snack. Plan to join the group for lunch after the hike, if you desire. If you get lost on the morning of the hike, call the Hike Leader on her cell phone.

Originally preserved by Elk Township and conservation groups. It is part of close to 1,000 acres along Springlawn Road in Elk, Franklin and New London townships, Chester County. It was acquired by PA-DCNR in 2018 as an addition to the White Clay Creek Preserve and was known as “White Clay Creek State Preserve – Springlawn”. BEC became it’s own PA State park in 2022.
