EVENT
DATE: 05/27/2019
TIME: 10:00am-3:00pm (prompt start, estimated end)
A great paddle for beginning paddlers and for those who like the slower pace on this peaceful stretch of Kent County water. Enjoy a leisurely 5 to 6 mile paddle to see nesting great blue herons. This is a very scenic paddle – expect to see bald eagles, blue herons, and osprey.
The amount of paddling time is up to the individual. We will first paddle down river to see the heron rookery, return to the put-in for lunch, then paddle upriver to the headwaters of the Sassafras. Any recreational boat 10′ or longer would be fine.
Meet at 10:00, launch at 10:30. Bring water, sunscreen and lunch.
Put-in is on Foxhole road. Take 301 south from Middletown, DE. Exit onto 290 towards Galena. Turn right at the bottom of the ramp, then immediately right onto Foxhole road. Stay straight onto a gravel road about 1/2 mile down and drive down to the water.
No facilities. Wawa or Walmart in Middletown is a good place for a rest stop before paddling.
