General Information: Difficulty & Must Haves: Nice to Have & Human Interest: Additional Notes & Shuttle Info:
Recreational: the Salem River is a natural stream in South Jersey that going west, empties into the Delaware River near the Delaware Memorial Bridges. It was dammed many years ago to provide a freshwater source for the DuPont Chambers Works and Atlantic City Electric companies. This part of the river is a reservoir with plenty of water, no tidal changes, nor discernible current. Salem River is an easy flat water paddle with a very nice the boat/kayak launch. Typical paddles go east upstream and return. There’s plenty of convenient parking. Lunch break spots are limited.
During spring paddles a waterfowl will be evident.
