Rittenhouse Trail…A new start

Due to insufficient parking at our usual meet-up location for the Rittenhouse Park hike (as displayed in the map below), we’re starting at a point further upstream and adjacent to the Christina River. This hike follows along the Christina River toward Rittenhouse Park. It is an out and back hike in shady conditions, mostly level and on an unpaved trail. There are no toilets at either end. Trekking poles are advised as there are many roots along the trail.

HIKE MEET-UP: The address is 1501 Casho Mill Rd., Newark, DE. There is plenty of parking in the lot at the rear of the building at this address. Our Hike Leader has confirmed our use of the parking lot with the building occupants. Do not meet at the parking lot as described in the map below.

 

From the intersection of DE-896 and DE-4, head south on DE-896 for 0.2 mile. Then turn right onto W Chestnut Hill Rd and proceed 0.3 mile. The park entrance will be on your right. Continue to the end of the drive and park efficiently.
