EVENT
DATE: 09/22/2023-09/25/2023
TIME: All Day (prompt start, estimated end)
MILEAGE: 35-37 miles
On this trip, we shall traverse the remote, wild northern half of the Quehanna Trail in north-central Pennsylvania. With luck, we will see and hear elk as this is the beginning of their mating season. On Friday, September 22nd , we will leave Delaware at an early hour to carpool to Parker Dam State Park where we will leave all but one car. We will then drive one car an hour east to the starting point of the hike where the QT crosses Three Runs Road. The first day will involve about a half day of hiking to cover 6–9 miles (distance will depend on how early we get started). Day 2 will be a full day of hiking covering 10-13 miles and 1500–2000 feet of climb. Day 3 will be another full day covering 13 miles and 1000 feet of climb. To finish up on Monday morning, we will hike the final 4 miles to the end point at Parker Dam State Park. We will then retrieve the car left at Three Runs Road and make the 4-hour drive back to Delaware. Total distance for the hike is 36 miles with 4400 feet of climb. This trip will be challenging with few bailout points. It is open to experienced backpackers who have demonstrated recent ability to cover similar terrain. For information or to sign-up contact Tom.
