We will be paddling Saturday, September 11th on the Pocomoke River and Sunday the 12th at Jane’s Island. Both paddles require a touring kayak that tracks well and is at least 14 feet long.
Janes Island State Park is located near Crisfield, on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Paddling the area gives options for all areas of expertise, from the open waters of the Tangier Sound to the >30 miles of marked paddle tails that traverse a Chesapeake Bay salt marsh. Most of these interior waterways are protected from wind and current. Fall is when you may see some of the many migrating birds that cross the region. Regardless of the time of year you can expect to see beautiful vistas, egrets, herons of all types, snails, crabs including the beautiful blue crab, many fish, osprey, and many other animals and birds. (Insects are very plentiful too, so don’t forget the bug spray!)
