We will be paddling Saturday, September 16th on the Pocomoke River, and Sunday the 17th at Jane’s Island. Both paddles require a touring kayak that tracks well and is at least 14 feet long. There will also be an afternoon paddle on Friday, September 15th from the park boat launch for those who arrive before then. Time to be determined. The time above (9:30) is for the Pocomoke on Saturday.
Janes Island State Park is located near Crisfield, on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Paddling the area gives options for all areas of expertise, from the open waters of the Tangier Sound to the >30 miles of marked paddle tails that traverse a Chesapeake Bay salt marsh. Most of these interior waterways are protected from wind and current. Fall is when you may see some of the many migrating birds that cross the region. Regardless of the time of year you can expect to see beautiful vistas, egrets, herons of all types, snails, crabs including the beautiful blue crab, many fish, osprey, and many other animals and birds. (Insects are very plentiful too, so don’t forget the bug spray!)
