DESCRIPTION: (Wear appropriate clothing & bring water! Below are some special instructions: what to bring, relative difficulties, interesting features, & carpooling directions.)
Leaders: Eric Sallee (609/306-2810) and Kathy Tidball (302/584-3777). Meet at 9:45 a.m. in the parking lot adjacent to Rt. 1 (Baltimore Pike) and Cheyney Road for a 3.5 to 4-mile hike through some wooded trails, rolling hills, and meadows.
Driving Directions: From Wilmington, take Rt. 202 North and turn right onto Rt.1 North. Continue 2.2 miles from this intersection to the site, passing Rt. 322, and the Concordville Inn. At the bottom of a long hill, turn right at the light onto Cheyney Road, then an immediate right into the parking lot. Meet in front of the Visitors Center (former train station). Toilets are to the right of the building entrance. We will be hiking on natural, usually grassy surfaces sometimes along the creek (could be wet in spots) and up hills so a walking stick or two will be helpful. We will also be crossing the creek on stable, good-sized rocks. It is a lovely area and if you are interested in a tour of the grist mill after the hike or after lunch, you can arrange that when you arrive. Site address is Newlin Grist Mill, 219 South Cheyney Rd., Glen Mills, PA 19342, www.newlingristmill.org, 610-459-2359.
