EVENT
DATE: 08/17/2019
TIME: 9:00am-5:00pm (prompt start, estimated end)
Lower Yough trip for first timers. Primarily aimed for those who have never done it, but all are welcome. So 1st timers, 2nd timers or 100th timers can come. The number of new Yough kayakers we can support is dependent on how many experienced Yough kayakers we have. Reliable river roll is desirable, but not a deal-breaker. So, if you want this as a summer’s end goal, work on the river roll now!
The Lower Yough is a beautiful river in a cool location. Challenging even for those who are comfortable in Class III. A step up from the Tohickon and a couple steps up from the Lehigh. At 1st-timer water levels, rapids are generally short, with quick recovery if someone swims. However, this is not the Lehigh; the Yough is a serious river with the risks associated with hard Class III rapids.
Water-level dependent. The water level must be suitable for first timers (probably 2.5′ or lower on the Ohiopyle gage). If not, first choice is to change venues, 2nd choice is to make it a regular trip and try for a 1st-timers trip on another weekend.
Must be a WTC member. Permit ($2 + tranaction fee) and bus token fee ($4) apply. We’ll purchase multiple permits to spread out the usurious transaction fee.
