DESCRIPTION: (Wear appropriate clothing & bring water! Below are some special instructions: what to bring, relative difficulties, interesting features, & carpooling directions.)
We’ll spend Friday night at the Blue Rocks family campground (those not wishing to can meet us there early Saturday morning). We’ll hike 1.6 miles up about 1000 feet to the Pulpit on Saturday morning. Then we’ll hike another 2.2 miles to the Pinnacle and another 5.1 miles to the Eckville shelter, where we’ll spend the night. On Sunday we’ll hike a minimum of 4.1 miles to the bird viewing site at Hawk Mountain, where expert birders will be set up with scopes and can help us identify and view incoming raptors. Afterwards, we’ll do a short shuttle back to the Blue Rocks campground. We can hike an extra mile or more at Hawk Mountain on the river of rocks before birding, if we like. Call Glenn for more info and to sign up.
