Franklin Preserve is a 92 acre tract in Landenberg. A very narrow portion of the West Branch of the White Clay Creek travels through an edge of it. Parking is in Crossan Park. Many of these trails and their bridges have been in existence for a while, but the expanded property is now fully available to the public. Join us for a pleasant winding trail hike through these maple and beech woodlands. No pavement, 80% wooded, one easy water crossing, no steep hills, and no bushwhacking. Do expect a couple of low lying areas that must be stepped carefully, to avoid damp feet. We’ll hike through a couple Osage Orange tree hedgerows, the back of an old vineyard, and a newly replanted field. Expect exposed tree roots. Boots are recommended and poles if you use them. There are a couple early outs, as we’ll be doing some figure eights. Bring water and a snack.
