TIME: 10:00am - 12:00pm (prompt start, estimated end)
MILEAGE: 4 miles
DESCRIPTION: (Wear appropriate clothing & bring water! Below are some special instructions: what to bring, relative difficulties, interesting features, & carpooling directions.) Leaders: Chuck (302-993-6738) and Cindy (302-650-4214) Nelson (H: 302-478-8804). Arrive ready to start at 10:00 AM.
The hike is 4 miles on paved trails within the park. This park has been renovated in the last two years and we are able to hike the full length of the park. It is very flat with great views of the river and of the Delaware Memorial Bridge and the Commodore Berry Bridge and the New Jersey riverfront. See where 19th century people came to swim in the Delaware before it became polluted. It will be windy with little shelter from the wind. This trail is the terminus of the East Coast Trail in Delaware. Wear a hat and sun block as there is no shelter since almost no trees. There are benches along the paths.
Directions; From I-495 take the Edgemoor Road Exit and turn east towards the river, then turn left/north at the DuPont Edgemoor Plant and drive one half mile to the State Park Entrance and proceed to the parking lot by the pavilion. Those people within North Wilmington, DE may take Shipley Road east to the DuPont Edgemoor site.
State Park fees are $4 for Delawareans and $8 for out of state residents. Of course Delaware State Park passholders enter free.
