Depart at 10:00 a.m. from the “Fort DuPont State Park – Colter Rd Lot”, Delaware City, DE, for an 4-5 mile hike. This unusual triangle of land is surrounded by the Delaware River to the east, the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal to the south, and the old Chesapeake & Delaware Canal to the northwest. There are many historical remnants here. (FYI: https://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=166243) Bring water and lunch.  No fees or restrooms. This area was recently purchased by the “Fort DuPont Redevelopment & Preservation Corporation” (https://fortdupont.org/). And most of the street name signs have been changed, although most mapping information remains with the original names! During the transition, both old and new street names are included in the driving directions.Â

WRITTEN DIRECTIONS:
From the intersection of US-13 & DE-72. Travel south on DE-72 for 1.5 mi. Continue strait onto DE-9 & proceed 2.4 mi. Cross the small C&D Branch Canal bridge, but not the Reedy Point Bridge! Turn left at the Fort DuPont sign. Immediately turn left onto New Castle Ave / Old Elm Ave & proceed 174 ft. Turn right onto Delaware Ave. / Oak Ln & proceed 0.1 mi. Then turn left onto Kent Ave / Colter Rd & proceed 0.1 mi. This old lot is on the right, before the buildings.
LOCATION NOTES:
This property was previously known as the grounds of the “Gov Bacon Health Center”. It is next to Fort DuPont State Park. The street names are new and may differ from what shows on your map. This area was recently purchased by the “Fort DuPont Redevelopment & Preservation Corporation”. There are many historical remnants here.
