This hike is on part paved trail/road and mowed grass through the site of remaining buildings of the former fort and new construction that is part of the redevelopment and preservation efforts on this property. Hike start is from the building that houses the Sales Center and office where a restroom is available. The address is 260 Old Elm Ave. Park in the lot next to the old Theater and the Post Headquarters on Maple Blvd.
Revised Directions due to street name changes: Make a left at the Fort DuPont sign and follow Old Elm Road to the stop sign. Make a right onto Maple Blvd., then an immediate left into the theater parking lot. Meet across the street outside the sales center. Note: These street names are new and may differ from what shows on your map app.

From I-95, Take exit 5A for DE-141 S toward New Castle, keep right at the fork and merge onto DE-141 S. Turn right onto DE-9 S/W 7th St.; continue to follow DE-9 S. Just before the Reedy Point Bridge, turn left into the Gov Bacon Health Center Grounds. Continue on Washington St. Parking is at the very dead end of this road, near the Delaware River.
