This hike is on part paved trail/road and mowed grass through the site of remaining buildings of the former fort and new construction that is part of the redevelopment and preservation efforts on this property. Hike start is from the building that houses the Sales Center and office where a restroom is available. The address is 260 Old Elm Ave. Park in the lot next to the old Theater and the Post Headquarters on Maple Blvd.

From the intersection of US-13 & DE-72. Travel south on DE-72 for 1.5 mi. Continue strait onto DE-9 & proceed 2.4 mi. Cross the small C&D Branch Canal bridge, but not the Reedy Point Bridge! Turn left at the Fort DuPont sign. Follow Old Elm Rd to the stop sign. Make a right onto Maple Blvd. Then an immediate left into the theater parking lot. Meet across the street outside the Redevelopment Corporation sales center.
This property was previously known as the grounds of the “Gov Bacon Health Center”. It is next to Fort DuPont State Park. The street names are new and may differ from what shows on your map. This area was recently purchased by the “Fort DuPont Redevelopment & Preservation Corporation”. There are many historical remnants here.
