Depart at 10:00 a.m. for a 4-5 mile hike. Elk Neck State Forest and Elk Neck State Park are very often confused. The State Forest’s area is much larger, with the main tract running all the way between Elkton and North East, MD. It has a climbable wooden lookout tower. The State Park is further from Delaware and has a white lighthouse on a 120 foot bluff, overlooking the Chesapeake Bay! There is a parking fee & porta potty. Bring water and snack. DRIVING DIRECTIONS: We will be meeting at the Elk Neck State Park, Lighthouse parking lot. Park in the lot at  the far deadend of Turkey Point Rd (39.459693, -76.005770). The closest street address  along the way is: 5427 Turkey Point Rd, North East, MD 21901.  From US-40 at the DE/MD state line. Proceed west on US-40 for 4.2 mi. Turn left onto Old Elk Neck Rd & proceed 8.7 mi. You will pass the State Forest. At the dead-end, turn left onto MD-272 (Turkey Point Rd) south & proceed 5.4 mi. The parking lot will be on the left very shortly down the dirt road. CARPOOLING: 9 AM, Glasgow County Park – East Lot, 2117 Pulaski Hwy, Newark, DE 19702 (39.608065, -75.725600). From  I-95 exit south on DE-896. Proceed on DE-896 for 3.3 mi. Turn left onto US-40 east for 1.4 mi. Make a u-turn at DE-72, doubling back, heading west on US-40, for only 0.6 mi, staying in right-hand lane. Turn right into the first Glasgow Park entrance and park in the right hand lot. Then proceed to the far end of the lot to meet. No parking fee. The lot on the left has a restroom.

LOCATION NOTES:

This is one of the tracts of the State PARK, not the State FOREST!  Elk Neck State Forest and Elk Neck State Park are very often confused. The State Forest’s area is much larger, with the main tract running all the way between Elkton and North East, MD. It has a climbable wooden lookout tower. The State Park is past the Forest and further from Delaware.  At its farthest section, it has a white lighthouse on a 120 foot bluff, overlooking the Chesapeake Bay.  Also known as “Turkey Point”.  The restroom is a single porta-potty, but it’s not near the parking lot.
