EVENT
DATE: 06/17/2023
TIME: 10:00am - 12:15pm (prompt start, estimated end)
MILEAGE: 4 miles
This hike will be in an usually secluded nearby 3,000 acre forest. We’ll start in the small native tree arboretum section. Enjoy the native pine trees, sweet gum trees, mountain laurel, azaleas, ferns, grasses, and mushrooms throughout the forest. Mostly gentle rolling trails with a nice high overlook. Some surfaces have been worn by erosion and expect a few wet ground areas. About 50% trail and 50% dirt roads. No paved roads even crossed. Half of the hike will follow a section of the 199 mile Mason Dixon Trail. Because of the time of year, we may have tree blooms!

This is one of the tracts of the State FOREST, not the State PARK! Elk Neck State Forest and Elk Neck State Park are very often confused. The State Forest’s area is much larger, with the main tract running south of US-40, all the way between Elkton and North East, MD. It has a climbable wooden lookout tower. The State Park is past the Forest and further from Delaware. At its farthest section, it has a white lighthouse on a 120 foot bluff, overlooking the Chesapeake Bay.
