DESCRIPTION: (Wear appropriate clothing & bring water! Below are some special instructions: what to bring, relative difficulties, interesting features, & carpooling directions.)
The hike will be in this usually secluded forest. Enjoy the native pine trees, sweet gum trees, mountain laurel, azaleas, ferns, grasses, mushrooms and huckleberries. Expect a few water crossings and some wet ground areas. A couple of short hills, but mostly flat elevation. Some surfaces have been worn by erosion. About 60% trail and 40% dirt roads. No paved roads even crossed. The majority of the hike will follow the 199 mile Mason Dixon Trail. Please bring water and lunch. We’ll eat lunch by the climbable lookout tower.

This is one of the tracts of the State FOREST, not the State PARK! Elk Neck State Forest and Elk Neck State Park are very often confused. The State Forest’s area is much larger, with the main tract running south of US-40, all the way between Elkton and North East, MD. It has a climbable wooden lookout tower. The State Park is past the Forest and further from Delaware. At its farthest section, it has a white lighthouse on a 120 foot bluff, overlooking the Chesapeake Bay.
