This forest is mostly Mountain Laurel shrubs, Sweet Gum and Pitch Pine trees. In a place where invasive Multiflora Rose does not grow! Two thirds of the hike will be leaf covered forest dirt trails and one third on forest dirt roads. No pavement and often few other humans. Challenge yourself with a couple of fairly short, but steep hills and one very small stream crossing. The pace will be at the slowest person’s rate. Experience part of the Mason Dixon Trail, that traverses this 10 mile wide pine State Forest. Bring water and snack.

This is one of the tracts of the State FOREST, not the State PARK! Elk Neck State Forest and Elk Neck State Park are very often confused. The State Forest’s area is much larger, with the main tract running south of US-40, all the way between Elkton and North East, MD. It has a climbable wooden lookout tower. The State Park is past the Forest and further from Delaware. At its farthest section, it has a white lighthouse on a 120 foot bluff, overlooking the Chesapeake Bay.
