This is a two hike event with one hike commencing at 8:30 AM and the second hike commencing at 9:00 AM. The earlier hike will be led by Jeff Chambers and Ian Stewart, an ornithologist, for a birding hike. The later hike will be led by Eric Sallee and Joe Sebastiani for a hike more focused on plants and other animals. Only the first 8 members in addition to the leaders will be accepted on either hike. When responding to Jeff Chambers at the above email address, indicate which hike you would prefer to join and if you would be agreeable to either hike should one or the other fill up first. Respondents will be notified if they have been accepted to the hike. When the hikes limits are achieved, others will be wait-listed. If wait-listed, provide your phone number to Jeff for notification in case of cancellations. As with our previous hike at Coverdale there is a $5 donation request.

Do not show up for these hikes without preregistering. Both hikes will follow the WTC Covid-19 guidelines . WTC has a new liability release form that is available on this website. Please read it. Please bring your mask, sanitizer, water, any snack and your own pen for the sign-in process. Coverdale Farm has plenty of available parking, but be aware of the earlier start-time. Please arrive by 8:15 AM for a prompt hike start on the earlier hike and 8:45 AM for a prompt start on the later hike. There will be separate meet-ups for each hike.

From the intersection of Route 82 and Route 52, take Route 52 north 1.2 miles to left on Old Kennett Pike. Continue on Old Kennett Pike 0.9 miles to left on Way Road, Continue on Way Road about 0.5 miles to right into Coverdale Farm Preserve.
The 377-acre Coverdale Farm Preserve is comprised of 200 acres of nature preserve that is managed to conserve and enhance the biodiversity of Delaware. Nestled alongside the preserve is a 177-acre working farm that showcases regenerative agriculture methods. Farm livestock includes cows, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, and Thanksgiving Turkeys. In addition to a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, the produce, meat, and other products produced on the farm help feed our community and the planet. Coverdale Farm’s regenerative agriculture practices lead to healthier soil and minimize the impact of farming on the land. Coverdale Farm offers panoramic views of rolling countryside, vegetable gardens, a professional kitchen for culinary classes. Program offerings include farm-based and natural history programs and seasonal events.
