EVENT
DATE: 08/04/2019
TIME: 10:00am - 4:00pm (prompt start, estimated end)
We are heading north to Cedar Creek, which runs through Double Trouble State Park in Ocean County NJ. This is a beautiful paddle, especially at this time of the year prior to the cranberry harvest that will take place soon in the properties surrounding the park. We are meeting at 10am at the state park office which has facilities and then we will caravan to the put-in at Dover Forge. We do need to shuttle down to Dudley Park in Lanoka Harbor. The whole paddle is slightly more than 9 miles with one dam portage.
Early sections of this creek are highly narrow with possible branches to paddle under. The paddle is through mostly swampy forests that contain cedars. The water levels are almost always adequate, as this is a very deep and often narrow creek. A smaller boat would be appropriate to negotiate tight turns. There is not a large gradient and the stream does not move especially fast.
This would be an appropriate trip for those paddlers who have had a good handful of varying experiences on water and would like to try something new.
Please bring a lunch, water, and sunscreen. Please RSVP to Russ Martyn if you are interested or if you just have a question. We probably won’t be off of the water until around 4pm and it is at least a 2 hour drive to Newark. Directions are below:
