DESCRIPTION: (Wear appropriate clothing & bring water!  Below are some special instructions: what to bring, relative difficulties, interesting features, and carpooling directions.)

Join us for this hike with two Delaware Nature Society specialists in flora and fauna. Bucktoe Creek Preserve is not typically accessible to the public, but is available to us through DNS. Hikers will split into two groups, depending on their interest. The site is hilly and includes both fields and wooded areas, thus, trekking poles are advised. Bring binoculars if you’re interested in joining the fauna group. There will be birds to see.

IMPORTANT: Since the DNS representatives are donating their time for our enjoyment and edification, please bring and contribute $5 or $10 to help continue this valuable service they provide to the Trail Club. The Hike Leader will collect your contribution.

LOCATION NOTES:

Bucktoe Creek Preserve is a 297-acre privately-owned natural area located near Kennett Square, in Chester County, Pennsylvania. The preserve is not open to the public but can be accessed through educational programming hosted on the preserve by one of the Preserve partners, including Delaware Nature Society. Bucktoe Creek Preserve is Delaware Nature Society’s official camping area complete with Adirondack-style lean-to shelters and miles of hiking trails through forests, meadows, and ponds along the Red Clay and Bucktoe Creeks.  The preserve is an excellent birding location with an annual Hawk Watch, bird walks, Motus tower, and other birding opportunities.

There is not a sign at the entrance, and looks like it is a private driveway with the #432.  There is a small sign that says only ‘BCP’ for Bucktoe Creek Preserve at the entrance road.  Keep following the unpaved road all the way to a grassy parking area with parking blocks.  Parking begins immediately after the bend in the road’. A small shed is easily seen from the parking lot.  People should not proceed beyond the parking near that shed without specific authorization.
