EVENT
DATE: 10/20/2016
TIME: 10:00am-12:30pm (prompt start, estimated end)
MILEAGE: 4-5 miles
We will start our 4-5 mile hike at 10 near a wildlife viewing platform overlooking a large wetland then walk along wetlands near the Delaware River and into the historic town of Port Penn.
The bridge over the old canal on the south side of Delaware City has been closed for construction. So, here are revised directions.
New driving Directions (10/14/2016)
Take Rt 1 or Rt. 13 south. If on Rt 1, take Exit 152 to Rt. 13 south. Follow Rt 13 south over the St. George’s Bridge and turn left on Port Penn Rd. which is about 4.5 miles after the exit from Rt. 1. Follow Port Penn Rd. for about 3 miles then turn left on Thorntown Rd. Continue on Thorntown Rd. for about 1 mile then turn left at the sign for the Augustine Wildlife Area Ashton Tract. Follow this crushed stone road for about half a mile, staying left at the fork for the parking area near the wildlife viewing platform.
Also, since getting to Delaware City from Port Penn is now difficult, the optional lunch will be at the ChesDel Diner at the intersection of Rt. 13 and Port Penn Rd.
