WTC WTC Volunteer Opportunities (Recurring) -- for miles on 03/16/2023 @ 9:00am-11:00am -- This project’s objective is to increase plant diversity and help preserve the native plants by removing non-native invasive plants. Wear long sleeves and pants, work gloves. Bring tools such as loppers, hand saws, pruners, shovels. All help is welcome and there is work for all levels: from pulling easy to remove honeysuckle vines, to sawing down linden viburnum. The walk to the worksite varies between 0.25 to 1.0 mile. HIKING Thursday Hiking -- for 4 miles on 03/16/2023 @ 10:00am-12:15pm -- This hike will be in an usually secluded nearby 3,000 acre forest. We’ll start in the small native tree arboretum section. Enjoy the native pine trees, sweet gum trees, mountain laurel, azaleas, ferns, grasses, and mushrooms throughout the forest. Mostly gentle rolling trails with a nice high overlook. Some surfaces have been worn by erosion and expect a few wet ground areas. About 50% trail and 50% dirt roads. No paved roads even crossed. Half of the hike will follow a section of the 199 mile Mason Dixon Trail.
