HIKING Saturday Medium Hiking -- for 9-10 miles on 02/04/2023 @ 9:00am - 1:30pm -- This loop hike will be in an amazingly secluded 3,000-acre forest tract.Ā The main flora differs significantly from our area forests and is almost all native.Ā Itās primarily: mountain laurel, pitch pines, lowbush blueberry, huckleberry, fan clubmoss, ferns, sweet gums, and several types of oaks.Ā Weāll stop at a lookout tower and old creek overlook.Ā Mostly rolling trails with some brilliant mosses.Ā Expect some roots and small water crossings. Ā About 80% trail andĀ 20% dirt roads.Ā No paved roads even crossed.Ā There is a new mountain laurel trail connector section.Ā Much of the hike will follow a section of the 199 mile Mason Dixon Trail.Ā Possible noise from the shooting range.Ā Lunch at 6 miles and an easy early out of 7 miles.
HIKING Saturday Long Hiking -- for 15-16 miles on 02/04/2023 @ 9:00am - 5:00pm -- Ā Hike will now be local due to expected extreme cold weather.and will start at 9:00 instead of 8:00. Ā These are well traveled trails with rocks, roots, hills and an occasional minor stream crossing,Ā Bring water, snacks, lunch.
HIKING Saturday Short Hiking -- for 4 miles on 02/04/2023 @ 10:00am - 12:30pm -- This park is a beautiful area with natural hiking trails and access to the Christina Creek/River. It is fairly flat and follows the creek most of the time. The trail can be wet after rainy periods and has a few sharp cutbacks and sections with roots. When we hit the highway bridge, we hike under it, a unique experience. Hiking poles are recommended.
