PADDLING Whitewater Paddling -- for miles on 05/22/2022 @ All Day -- – Instructor – Denise Hackman Location: Lehigh River, White Haven to Rockport, venue subject to change depending on river conditions Enrollment limit: 4 Course Description: This class will include working on river running skills in a more technical setting, reading water, adapting to changes in rapids as the water flow becomes more channelized, and becoming acquainted with rocks. Prerequisite skills: comfortable on class 2 rivers, familiar with White Haven to Rockport section. Recommended skills: solid roll and/or competent with self-rescue skills. Deadline for registration: May 15th Gear needed: All whitewater gear and weather appropriate layering. Some gear rentals are available through WTC. HIKING Sunday Hiking -- for 6-7 miles on 05/22/2022 @ 10:00am - 12:30pm -- The trails are primarily wooded and there are some small hills. Bridges exist across the streams in most places. Walking poles are recommended if you use them. Initial plan is to do most of the Snow Goose Lenape Long Loop.
WTC WTC Volunteer Opportunities (Recurring) -- for miles on 05/22/2022 @ 1:00pm - 3:00pm -- This project’s objective is to increase plant diversity and help preserve the native plants by removing non-native invasive plants. Wear long sleeves and pants, work gloves. Bring tools such as loppers, hand saws, pruners, shovels. All help is welcome and there is work for all levels: from pulling easy to remove honeysuckle vines, to sawing down linden viburnum. The walk to the worksite varies between 0.25 to 1.0 mile. HIKING Multi-day Hiking -- for miles on 05/22/2022 - 05/26/2022 @ 6:00pm - 12:30pm -- May 22 to May 26 (Sun – Thur) We’re planning three days of outdoor activities including an 8-10 mile hike on the West Rim Trail on Monday (with shorter options), canoe (or kayak or raft) on Pine Creek on Tuesday, and either do a short hike or cycle on the rail trail on Wednesday. (Participants are free to create their own program using maps and suggestions we will provide.) Boat and bike rentals are available from Pine Creek Outfitters and we will make the arrangements. Alternatively, you can bring your own boat or bike and use Pine Creek’s shuttle service. Comfortable accommodations with breakfast and dinner included are provided by the Susquehannock Lodge.
