HIKING Multiple Day Backpacking -- for 13-15 miles on 07/24/2021 - 07/25/2021 @ All Day -- We’ll spend Friday night at the Blue Rocks family campground (those not wishing to can meet us early Saturday morning). The initial climb will be next to a large and scenic boulder field. We’ll hike 1.6 miles up about 1000 feet to the Pulpit on Saturday morning. Then we’ll hike another 2.2 miles to the Pinnacle and another 5.1 miles to the Eckville shelter, where we’ll spend the night. On Sunday we’ll hike a minimum of 4.1 miles to Hawk Mountain. On the way see we’ll see some large, fruiting chestnut trees. At Hawk Mountain we’ll do some day pack ridge hiking. Afterwards, we’ll shuttle back to the Blue Rocks campground. There will be a cost associated with overnight parking at the campground and the shuttle back. Please call Glenn to discuss arrangements.
HIKING Saturday Medium Hiking -- for 9-10 miles on 07/24/2021 @ 8:30am - 12:00pm -- The hike will be in this usually secluded forest. Enjoy the native pine trees, sweet gum trees, mountain laurel, azaleas, ferns, grasses, mushrooms and huckleberries. Expect a few water crossings and some wet ground areas. A couple of short hills, but mostly flat elevation. Some surfaces have been worn by erosion. About 60% trail and 40% dirt roads. No paved roads even crossed. The majority of the hike will follow the 199 mile Mason Dixon Trail. Please bring water and lunch. We’ll eat lunch by the climbable lookout tower.
HIKING Saturday Long Hiking -- for 15 miles on 07/24/2021 @ 8:30am - 2:30pm -- This hike is cancelled because the leader is unavailable. This will be a fast paced hike on well traveled trails with rocks, roots and an occasional minor stream crossing. Bring water, snack, lunch, sunscreen and bug spray.
