WTC WTC Volunteer Opportunities (Recurring) -- for miles on 09/19/2019 @ 9:00am - 11:00am -- This project’s objective is to increase plant diversity and help preserve the native plants by removing non-native invasive plants. Wear long sleeves and pants, work gloves. Bring tools such as loppers, hand saws, pruners, shovels. All help is welcome and there is work for all levels: from pulling easy to remove honeysuckle vines, to sawing down linden viburnum. The walk to the worksite varies between 0.25 to 1.0 mile. HIKING Thursday Hiking -- for 4 miles on 09/19/2019 @ 10:00am - 1:00pm -- The hike through this historic town along the Susquehanna River includes one or part of a long optional hill. Bathrooms are available at the hike meet-up. DRIVING DIRECTIONS: For carpooling, meet at Suburban Shopping Center off Elkton Road at 9:10 a.m. Alternate directions to those listed below: Proceed south on I-95 to Port Deposit/Perryville Exit (first exit after Chesapeake Travel Plaza, right on exit for Rt. 222. Follow 222 N as it turns left & down the hill into the town. At Rts. 222 & 276 intersection, turn left after the post office, cross RR tracks & park behind Lee’s Landing Restaurant, 600 Rowland Dr., Port Deposit, MD 21904 (tel. #443/747-4006) where we will plan to gather for lunch after the walk.
HIKING Multiple Day Backpacking -- for miles on 09/19/2019 - 09/22/2019 @ 6:00pm -- Leader: Tom Overbaugh (H: 302/383-4498; E: email@example.com). This hike covers the western half of the AFT, using the Shingle Mill and Moss-Hanne trails in Black Moshannon State Park to complete a 31-mile loop. We will leave Delaware Thursday evening and camp Thursday night at the state park group tenting area. The hike will start Friday morning and finish on Sunday. The AFT is one of Pennsylvania’s newer backpacking trails, completed in 1998. Terrain is moderate with less rockier footing than much of PA. Daily details are Day 1: 8-9 miles/500 ft of climb; Day 2: 11-12 miles/1700 ft of climb; Day 3: 11 miles/ 300 ft climb. This trip is open to experienced backpackers who have demonstrated ability to cover these daily distances and elevation changes. Contact Tom for additional details or to sign up for the trip.
