Depart at 10:00 AM from the Elk Neck State Forest, Arboretum Parking Lot, 2616 Old Elk Neck Rd, Elkton, MD 21921 (39.575704, -75.881543) for a 4-5 mile hike. There’s a good chance that the forest’s Mountain Laurel will be in bloom! We’ll walk through the young tree Arboretum first and then into the forest trails. Challenge yourself with some small, but steep hills and small stream crossings. The pace will be at the slowest person’s rate. Experience part of the Mason Dixon Trail, that traverses this 10 mile wide pine State Forest. Bring water and snack. |

This is one of the tracts of the State FOREST, not the State PARK! Elk Neck State Forest and Elk Neck State Park are very often confused. The State Forest’s area is much larger, with the main tract running south of US-40, all the way between Elkton and North East, MD. It has a climbable wooden lookout tower. The State Park is past the Forest and further from Delaware. At its farthest section, it has a white lighthouse on a 120 foot bluff, overlooking the Chesapeake Bay.
