It's Never too Early to Sign up!
The club offers the 15-mile hike across the entire state every year in the fall. The date for the twenty second edition in 2016 is Saturday, November 5. We meet in Delaware City at 8:00 am to check in and board buses beginning at 8:45 for the ride to the starting point in North Chesapeake City. We will hike along the north side of the C&D Canal to the Delaware River. The route lies mainly on land designated as the Canal Wildlife Zone. At the 10-mile checkpoint at St. Georges, refreshments and toilets will be available, and provisions can be made to transport people back to their cars, if necessary.
East of St. Georges, the route leaves the canal, enters the woods, and circles a Marina. Then it returns to the canal and continues toward historic Delaware City on Clinton St. The trees and shrubbery sporting their fall foliage, combined with the opportunity for a close view of boats, ships and barges using the waterway, make for a pleasant journey along trail.
The fees for 2016 are $14 for WTC members and $17 for nonmembers, which covers the cost of shuttle bus transportation, a T-shirt, refreshments, and portable toilets at the rest stop. See the links below for more details and/or contact the leader,Tom Maddux (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Just think, you’ll be able to tell people you walked across an entire state!
