July Yough Trips - 11/12 & 18/19

I am currently organizing 2 yough trips in July.  They are trips that I am leading personally, and are NOT club trips.  If you are interested in going, let me know and I will provide more details.  If you wish to paddle with our group, you have to let me know ahead of time.

I'm confused. If they're NOT club trips, why are you putting them out on the website? Why not use email like everyone else who runs trips for friends and who wants to make the trip exclusive?

Hey Chris,  I'm posting it here because I don't have my entire target audiences' email addresses, and more people look here for trips.  Lots of trips posted here are pickup trips, which aren't club trips, and nobody has complained about that.

Also the trip is not exclusive, I'm simply requesting that people contact me ahead of time so that I can give them details and let them decide if they want to join us.

It has been my understanding that if a trip is advertised through Club media and has at least 3 boats, it is an official Club trip.

What's the rationale for non-Club trips? How are they diffrerent from Club trips?  I just don't get it.

Chris

That definition is news to me.  Is that in our bylaws or something the board voted on?

The difference  in my opinion between a club trip and a non club trip is that the club is not vouching for the leadership of the trip (IE: me), and is not responsible for the outcome of the trip.

Re: July Yough Trips - 11/12 & 18/19

Even though a lot of trips are posted at the last minute, I believe most people consider them Club sanctioned trips where the leaders are following Club guidelines and procedures.

The question of whether or not a "Non-Club" trip should be posted here on the forums is a discussion best for the Club Officers and Committiee.  Since it is the Wilmington Trail Club that may be liable for trips or events posted on this forum.

The only reason I can see for developing a "Non-Club" trip would be to eliminate any implied link to the Wilmington Trail Club, and therefore not be subject to the procedural guidelines established by the Club.  Trips which can be easily set up through direct email.
